Mad River Canoe takes its name from the Mad River, a north-flowing river in the state of Vermont. Mad River Canoe was founded in 1971 by Jim and Kay Henry, both accomplished canoeists and kayakers who shared a passion for wilderness tripping and whitewater racing. It was in their woodshed in Waitsfield, Vermont that the first Mad River Canoe was born out of a need for a higher performance, more durable canoe than was currently available.
Throughout its history, the company has been an innovator in design and construction. Mad River pioneered the introduction of Kevlar® to the sporting goods industry in 1974. From whitewater warriors to general purpose family canoes, Mad River Canoe continues to produce and develop one of the largest lines of specialty canoes in the marketplace today, with over 20 different models / configurations to choose from.
