Ocean Kayak is the world's biggest maker of sit-on-tops. In 1971, in a backyard in Malibu, California, the original founder took an old surfboard and carved out two places - one to sit in and another for his scuba gear. That's right the Ocean Kayak was born thanks to a passion for scuba diving. In the mid-80s they stopped making kayaks out of fiberglass and began mass-producing them from rotomolded polyethylene. It made them much tougher - practically indestructible, in fact. And much more affordable. Not to mention much more popular.
